Become an MCHE Member Today

We are writing today to ask you to be a 2021 member of the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education.

2020 has been a year of unprecedented challenges.  Despite the obstacles, the Board of Directors and the MCHE Team redoubled our commitment to our mission to teach and apply the lessons of the Holocaust to counter indifference, intolerance, and genocide.

SUCCESSESMCHE’s dedicated team maintained our annual programming through the Covid shutdown by successfully navigating a shift to online teaching and programs.

We also adopted a bold new strategic plan.  It is designed to impact thousands more individuals per year – students, educators, religious groups, military units, civil servants, and others who seek knowledge about the Holocaust — from Colorado to the center of Missouri, from Iowa to Arkansas, truly serving the Midwest.

We prepared a relaunch of the MCHE website that will enhance the ability of educators and learners of all ages to access the testimonies of local survivors, historical lectures, the full catalogue of MCHE’s documentaries, and enriched educational content.

CHALLENGESRecent surveys show that young adults have a shocking lack of basic Holocaust knowledge.  At the same time, reported antisemitic incidents are at a 40-year high. Additionally, we are at a moment in American history in which the nation must grapple with its systemic racism.  All of these combine to make MCHE’s mission as relevant now as it has ever been.

VISIONIn response to these needs, MCHE’s 2021 priorities will place it at the forefront of Holocaust education.

The Midwest Center for Holocaust Education has the distinct honor of being the educational partner for Union Station’s presentation of the exhibition Auschwitz: Not Long Ago. Not Far Away.  Scheduled to open in June 2021, Kansas City is the second and LAST North American stop on the tour.  Certain to draw visitors representing a national audience, MCHE’s educational materials will supplement student learning.  Additionally, our public speakers series will elaborate on a full range of topics explored in the exhibit.

Before Covid upended traditional learning for all, MCHE had committed to the creation of MCHE-authored content delivered through a learning management system (LMS).  Educators tell us that a primary barrier to their inclusion of the Holocaust in their teaching is the fear of “doing it wrong.”  Our fully integrated units, delivered online, will allow educators to confidently engage their students in a study of the Holocaust.

Your support is critically needed NOW.  We must utilize MCHE’s unique resources and abilities to ensure that the history and lessons of the Holocaust remain relevant to students, teachers, and adults throughout the Midwest.  By doing so, we address voids in exposure, education, and understanding where hate, bigotry, and intolerance take root and grow.  With your generous help, we will respond today and for years to come.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to MCHE’s mission and for your support of our programs.

Most sincerely,

Jessica Rockhold
