Triumph over Madness: A WWII/Holocaust Story (VIRTUAL)
September 24 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Second Generation Speaker Peter Stern will share his father, Herbert’s, Holocaust testimony via Zoom as part of a program for the Linwood Community Library. Email email@example.com to receive the Zoom link to attend.
Herbert was born into a German Jewish family in 1919 in Berlin. He experienced the legal persecution of the 1930s, his father being arrested and imprisoned by the Gestapo, being forced to leave school and the separation of his family. He succeeded in emigrating to the United States in August 1936. While learning English, he completed his education and then joined the US Army. He served in the 9th Infantry Division over 8 military campaigns in North Africa and Europe. Because of his German and French language skills, he interviewed and interrogated German prisoners for much of the war. He was with his division when they liberated the Nordhausen forced labor camp in Germany in April 1945. Herbert has the unique distinction of being both a survivor and a liberator.
