Maury Rydell was born Moniek Rydelnik in Zagorze, Poland. He later moved to Bedzin, Poland with his family. He had two older brothers and three older sisters. Maury went to Jewish school and had a Bar Mitzvah in 1939.
When deportations to the camps began Maury’s entire family was separated. He was interned in four different camps: Annenberg, Gross-Rosen, Buchenwald and Bissingen. He and his brother survived the war by sewing uniforms for the Nazis. Only one of his brothers and two sisters survived the Holocaust.
After the liberation in Germany, Maury and his siblings came to the United States. He lived in Brooklyn for 3 years and then came to Kansas City, Missouri where he took a job at Fashionbilt, a garment factory where he worked for over 32 years. He met his wife, Eva, in Kansas City.
