The Third Reich’s Other Victims: Queer Identity and Holocaust Memory After Fascism In Honor of National Coming Out Day
This talk presents the latest research into LGBTQI victims of the Nazis, including who was targeted when and why. It then explores the struggles for victim recognition and restitution in the postwar period, both within queer communities and at the national level. It discusses the establishment of a memorial in central Berlin dedicated to queer victims and the broader implications of remembering such atrocities in today’s world.
Dr. Evans is contemporary Germany with a diverse range of research interests from transnational histories of sexuality, everyday life and visual culture to the history of populism and authoritarianism, especially as it evolves across platforms in social media and memory.
Presented in partnership with Congregation Kol Ami.
