MCHE Summer Institute: The Path to Genocide
4-day summer institute for educators in grades 7-12. Taught my MCHE educators in conjunction with the exhibition Auschwitz: Not long ago. Not far away. Exhibition access throughout the course is included.
This course centers on a chronological survey of Holocaust history with emphasis on the evolution of Nazi policy. In addition to learning from content-based lectures and readings, participants will experience cross-curricular teaching techniques appropriate to Holocaust education, become familiar with the Echoes and Reflections curriculum and resources, and gain hands-on practice with primary source analysis.
Teachers will leave this course with increased personal knowledge of Holocaust history, usable classroom activities with ties to Common Core Standards, age-appropriate resources, and a familiarity with the recorded testimonies of local Holocaust survivors.
Content and activities are appropriate for junior high, middle school and high school educators ONLY.
