Shanghai: Safe Haven During the Holocaust
Join us for a special virtual tour of Shanghai: Safe Haven During the Holocaust, Illinois Holocaust Museum’s newest special exhibition, on February 1, 2022 at noon on Zoom.
The exhibit sheds light on a lesser-known moment in Holocaust history when European Jews trying to escape Nazi persecution found hope in an unlikely place: Shanghai, China. In 1946, American photojournalist Arthur Rothstein began documenting the lives of Jewish refugees who called Shanghai home.
Following the virtual tour, Jessica Rockhold, MCHE Executive Director, will lead a discussion about the experiences of local survivors who fled to Shanghai.
This event is free and open to the public.
