My Mother’s Story

When I was a young adult, our mother, Alice Kern, published her memoir, “Tapestry of Hope”. Written in the spirit of Anne Frank’s diary, Alice was sometimes referred to as “the living Anne Frank” since they were both in the same concentration camps at the same time. Whereas, Anne tragically died before the liberation of Bergen-Belsen, our mom lived to tell the world what really happened inside the camps.

Alice reached thousands of people with her powerful story of courage and perseverance, plainly told, and strangely free of bitterness. Now, I am sharing her story, and mine, so that the lessons learned from the Holocaust—sadly, still relevant today—can be shared with students, teachers and others…so that it Never Happens Again.
