Holocaust History and Memory: Germany and Eastern Europe with MCHE

European study experience and 6 pre-trip learning sessions
September 6-18, 2025 – Travel in Europe
Pre-trip learning sessions – to be announced in January 2025

MCHE is pleased to announce it’s second European Study Experience, with travel facilitated by EF Go Ahead Tours. This experience is currently open to MCHE members. Participation is limited.

The memory of the Holocaust is woven into the fabric of modern Europe. This tour experience will highlight these layers and give you a deeper understanding of this history. Start your journey in Berlin where you will visit the former site of Nazi headquarters and see how the Holocaust is commemorated today. Continue to Poland to visit Warsaw and Krakow as well as the sites of the Warsaw Ghetto, Treblinka, and Auschwitz-Birkenau. The tour concludes in Vilnius, Lithuania – once known as Vilna – a city which was once the heart of Yiddish culture. Here you will tour the former Jewish ghetto, the city’s only remaining synagogue, and Ponary—a site of mass shooting.

To prepare you for this travel experience, MCHE will offer 6 pre-trip learning sessions, taught by Dr. Shelly Cline and Jessica Rockhold, examining the history of each location included in the itinerary. Participants will be provided with an optional reading list.

The tour is managed by MCHE educators, Dr. Shelly Cline and Jessica Rockhold who also lead all pre-trip education. Once on the ground in Europe we are joined by a professional tour facilitator who manages our travel through Europe. At each location we also work with local guides licensed to lead tours in their home countries.

Please note that this tour requires significant sustained walking over uneven surfaces.
