The memory of the Holocaust is woven into the fabric of modern Europe. These tour experiences take you to the sites of the Holocaust – bringing history to life as you encounter the authentic space in which these events transpired. These tours explore the layers of history and memory and give you a deeper understanding of this event and its impact on the people who experienced it.

To prepare you for each travel experience, MCHE offers a series of pre-travel of learning sessions examining the history of each location included in the itinerary. Participants are be provided with optional reading lists. These sessions build critical background knowledge that allows our groups to maximize their learning on the ground in each location. Sessions are offered in hybrid format so locals can gather and people from out of town can join on Zoom.
The tour is managed by MCHE’s Dr. Shelly Cline and Jessica Rockhold who also lead all pre-trip education. Once on the ground in Europe we are joined by a professional tour facilitator who manages our travel through Europe. At each location we also work with local guides licensed to lead tours in their home countries.
Tours require sustained walking over uneven surfaces. Kosher food is not included, but vegetarian options are available at each location.

This journey from Germany to Poland follows the path of destruction while honoring the resilience and vibrancy of Jewish life before the Holocaust. We will explore Jewish heritage sites that tell the stories of thriving communities before the war, we will visit ghettos, memorials, museums, and former killing centers, to deepen our understanding of how the Holocaust unfolded, commemorate the lives lost, and honor those who resisted and survived.

Each day is built for reflection, conversation, and genuine engagement with some of the most consequential history of the 20th century — exploring how a city once synonymous with tyranny has become a global leader in historical memory and democratic values. Iconic landmarks, historic Jewish neighborhoods, powerful memorials, and lesser-known sites all have a role to play in revealing Berlin’s complicated, unflinching past.
