Murder in the East: Investigating the Einsatzgruppen
In June of 1941, mobile killing units known as Einsatzgruppen followed the German army into newly occupied Soviet territory. There they carried out systematic shooting operations against local Jewish populations. Over the next two years, these units murdered nearly 2 million civilians. This five-week course taught by MCHE historian Dr. Shelly Cline, takes an in-depth look at several communities targeted by the Einsatzgruppen, at Sonderkommando 1005 charged with destroying the evidence of these mass shootings, and at the post-war trials of the individuals who participated in these operations.
This program is offered both in-person and on Zoom and requires registration below. The in-person program meets for 5 weeks on Thursdays beginning on February 27 at 12:oo pm at the Jewish Community Campus. The Zoom program meets on Fridays beginning on February 28 at 12:00 pm.
