Esther Bergh

Of Blessed Memory 1924 – 2019

Esther Laster was born in 1924 in Munich, Germany. She lived there with her family until January 1939 when she was placed on the first Kindertransport out of Munich. Esther spent the war years in Manchester, then London. A young teenager, she was placed with a foster family as a mother’s helper. After the war, she moved to Israel, where she helped found Kibbutz Lavi. Esther immigrated to New York in 1955 to reunite with surviving family. She later met her future husband, Warner Bergh, also a Holocaust survivor.
