Eugene Lebovitz

Of Blessed Memory 1924 – 2013

Eugene Lebovitz, his parents, and his older sister and brother lived in a two-bedroom house attached to his father Abraham’s custom tailor shop in Berehovo, Czechoslovakia. In addition to working in his father’s shop, he found time to play the clarinet in his school’s marching band and to pray in the synagogue every morning and evening. Like his father, he was an ardent Zionist. He was conscripted into forced labor before making his way to the Budapest ghetto where he met and married his wife Kate. He was liberated at Mauthausen. After liberation, Gene and Kate made their way to the United States, eventually settling in Kansas City.
