Ida Loeffler
Of Blessed Memory 1923 – 2009
Ida Loeffler, the sole survivor of her entire family, grew up in Krakow, Poland. In 1941, when she was 18, the Germans established a ghetto in the city and forced all the Jews into it. After a time, her parents were sent from the ghetto, and she was forced to work in a factory that manufactured material for the German war effort. In 1943, when the ghetto was closed and Ida was sent to Plaszow and then Auschwitz. In 1945, a death march took her to Bergen-Belsen, where Ida was liberated by the British. She and her husband emigrated to the United States in 1957.
