Otto Schick
Of Blessed Memory 1921-2000
Otto Schick was born in 1921 in Vienna, Austria. His parents, who lived in the United States, were visiting family in Austria at the outbreak of World War I and the family never returned to the U.S., settling instead in Europe. In addition to witnessing the Anschluss in March 1938, Otto served in a work kommando in Austria, later escaped to Hungary and was eventually deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau before working in a series of work kommandos throughout several camps. He was liberated at Dachau in April 1945. He and his wife Eve came to the United States in 1946.
