Ann Walters
Of Blessed Memory 1932 – 2009
Ann Walters was born in 1932 in Radziłów, Poland. Initially occupied by the Soviet Union, in June 1941 the Germans occupied the town. Between July 7 and July 10, Polish non-Jews, encouraged by the Germans, captured most of Radziłów’s Jews, locked them into a barn and sett it on fire. Ann’s father hid the family in a nearby village. Between 1941 and 1945, they changed hiding places more than fifty times. They were liberated in January 1945 and were the only surviving members of Radziłów’s Jewish community. In 1947, Ann tried to enter Palestine illegally. She was caught and interned in a British detention camp on Cyprus. Ann eventually made it to Israel where she lived until 1957 when she came to the United States with her husband Sam.
