George Rosenberg
Of Blessed Memory 1925 – 2017
Guenther Rosenberg was born in 1925 in Hamburg, Germany into an affluent Jewish family. He remembers a comfortable life attending Jewish schools and playing with his two brothers. Though his family experienced little direct antisemitism, on Kristallnacht, his father was imprisoned in a German concentration camp. As the situation in Germany worsened, Guenther was sent to live in a Jewish orphanage because his father could no longer support the family. In 1941, Guenther was able to immigrate by himself to the United States on a student visa. In 1944, he was drafted into the US Army and worked as an interpreter at a prisoner of war camp in North Carolina.
