On March 10, 2024 the National Holocaust Museum of the Netherlands, the newest Holocaust museum in the world, opened in Amsterdam. The museum was well received as an example for future Holocaust museums for the way in which it connects personal histories to the larger history of the Holocaust and for its innovative design and curatorial choices.
The opening, which was attended by the King of the Netherlands and the Presidents of Israel, Germany, and Austria, led to an outburst of anti-Israeli protests. Since then many antisemitic incidents have taken place in the Netherlands. Professor Emile Schrijver, General Director of the Jewish Cultural Quarter in Amsterdam, will discuss the most important curatorial choices and how the museum, and the Jewish Cultural Quarter as a whole, navigate this difficult geopolitical reality.
This program is presented by Professor Emile G.L. Schrijver, General Director of the Jewish Cultural Quarter in Amsterdam The event is co-sponsored by JCRB|AJC and is supported, in part, by the Jean G. Zeldin Partners in Holocaust Education Fund at the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education.
