‘Never Again’ post 10/07: The Future of Holocaust Education in the Age of Misinformation

Featuring Dr. Maria Zalewska – Executive Director, Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Foundation

Social Hall – Jewish Community Campus

In the face of ever-changing regimes of Holocaust memory and remembrance, digital media continues to develop and challenge our understanding of what constitutes an archive, documentation, testimony, and a visit to a place of memory.

The online rhetoric that has emerged as a direct result of the 10/07 Hamas’ attack on Israel and Israel’s counteroffensive suggests that the memory of the Holocaust and Holocaust education are facing an altogether new challenge: who and how will learn about the Holocaust going forward? By mapping the current state of ‘fake news,’ online networks of extremist groups, and misinformation, this presentation interrogates how digital media are destabilizing our understanding of reality, fomenting antisemitism, and affecting the physical world.

The public is invited to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a special presentation by Dr. Maria Zalewska. The presentation is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested using the button above.

Dr. Maria Zalewska is the executive director of the Auschwitz Birkenau Memorial Foundation. She is a Holocaust educator, media scholar, and author. Her academic work focuses on the relationship between interactivity, visual studies, and Holocaust memory.
